"Progress" Is Necessary

As a recent member of the Bay Area Municipal Elections Committee (BAYMEC) Board of Directors, a four-county lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) political action committee (PAC), it was an honor to attend the 33rd annual “Progress Never Stops Brunch” held at The Glass House in San Jose on October 1, 2017. This year’s brunch proved to be a stellar event with a powerful group of LGBTQA Leaders in the room alongside so many allies who stand by our side. Serving in our communities as parents, coaches, first responders, and teachers, our voices and issues need to be reflected in our policies and politics. "Progress" is necessary and that is why I resigned from the BAYMEC Board of Directors to focus on my campaign to be the next Councilmember for the City of San Jose’s District 9. If I am elected to the City Council, I will be the first LGBTQ woman and second LGBTQ person ever to serve on the San Jose City Council.

I want to thank the hardworking members of the Board of Directors for their time and commitment to making this successful event. Many thanks to everyone who attended and to those who made an even bigger contribution. The most impactful way to sustain LGBTQA candidates and allies is by supporting organizations such as BAYMEC.

BAYMEC has come a long way since it’s founding. However, the work that BAYMEC does is more important today than ever before due to the anti-LGBT rhetoric that is growing across our country and the push to erase the hard fought progress the LGBT community has seen in recent years by the Trump Administration. Thank you BAYMEC for keeping up the fight for equality and justice for our families. For more information visit BAYMEC at http://www.baymec.org/.
